WORKPLACE SAFETY AND INSURANCE BOARD

Posted By On 06-09-2020

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (also known as the WSIB) is a government operating agency that assists both workers and their employers when there is a workplace incident. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board carries out the workplace and safety insurance systems in compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997.

When a worker is injured, they can receive benefits through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board .  In order to obtain such benefits, the worker needs to be demonstrate that the injury happened while performing work related tasks.  The employers benefit from theWorkplace Safety and Insurance Board as well as the workers.  By paying into an “accident insurance fund” the employers are protected from being held liable due to a work place related incident.

The WSIB ensures that the workplace promotes and abides by health and safety standards.  The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board ensures that the workers are able to recover and return to work.

There are a few steps that you need to take when you have been injured in a workplace.  There are specific forms that need to be filled out by the appropriate individuals to ensure that the injured worker is compensated.  Once the forms are filled out, they need to be filed with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and a Claim will be opened.

When the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board renders a decision, it may be challenged if there are enough grounds to establish that there should be a review.  For example, simply not liking the outcome does not give grounds for a review, there needs to be specific criterion that need to be met

The WSIB does assist many workers in various injuries sustained in the workplace.  However, there are many steps that need to be taken and properly completed when starting a Claim.  There are many time lines that need to be strictly adhered to and the forms needs to filled out correctly otherwise you are risking not receiving any compensation; and if you are unable to work, this would not be an ideal situation.

In order to avoid any complications in your Claims, it is encouraged to obtain legal representation. That way, the process for obtaining your compensation goes smoothly, and have all of your questions and concerns addressed.
