What is the Ontario small claims court?

The Ontario Small Claims Court is a relatively quick system for settling claims of up to $35,000. Claims may include issues such as:

How Does Ontario Small Claims Court Work?

If the defendant fails to do so, a default judgment could be rendered against them. A Settlement Conference is held usually within 90 days of the defence being filed. This is an opportunity for both sides to obtain full disclosure and to give the parties an opportunity to settle.  If no settlement can be reached, the case will then proceed to a trial during which any witness statements and evidence will be presented.
